Viraj Master, MD, PhD, has been appointed to the Fray F. Marshall Chair in Clinical Urologic Research. This endowed chair was established to honor the late Fray Marshall, MD, former chair of Emory Urology, and his many contributions to Emory, and recognizes an outstanding clinical urology researcher and faculty member.
Dr. Master received both his MD and PhD from the University of Chicago. He completed his postgraduate training in general surgery, urologic oncology, and reconstructive urology and trauma at the University of California, San Francisco, in 2005, after which he was recruited to the Emory University School of Medicine.
In addition to Dr. Master's academic appointments, he has also served in many administrative and clinical leadership roles. He has served as assistant chief of the urology service at Grady Memorial Hospital since 2005, and director of the clinical research unit and associate chairman of clinical affairs and quality since 2013. From 2011-2013 he was Emory Urology's quality officer, and he served as the urology residency program site director at Grady from 2006-2011. In 2019, Dr. Master was appointed director of integrative oncology and survivorship at Winship Cancer Institute at Emory.
