We are proud of our longstanding partnership with Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, one of the largest pediatric healthcare systems in the nation. Together, we not only deliver the best clinical care, we're also partners in research and training.
Clinical Care
Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta comprises three free-standing hospitals serving highly diverse populations with a total of 673 licensed beds and more than 60 pediatric specialties and programs. Children's also has eight urgent care clinics and 50 neighborhood clinics across Georgia. Each year, Children’s sees 1.2 million patient visits and performs more than 300,000 imaging studies.
In response to growing demand for specialized pediatric care, Children’s is building the new Arthur M. Blank Hospital, a 19-story hospital with two patient towers and 446 licensed beds in DeKalb County. It will feature a level 1 trauma center and is slated for completion in 2024-2025.
Emory and Children’s are accredited by the American College of Radiology, which demonstrates commitment to quality care and patient safety. Children's is one of the few pediatric health care centers in the country to have received the Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence designation.
Imaging Facilities
Pediatric radiology and imaging services are offered at the following locations:
- Three pediatric hospitals: Children’s Egleston Hospital, Children’s Hughes Spalding Hospital, and Children’s Scottish Rite Hospital;
- Three outpatient clinic locations: Children’s at Satellite Boulevard, Children’s at Town Center, and Children’s at Webb Bridge.; and
- Emory University Hospital Midtown (NICU) and Grady Memorial Hospital.
Children's Healthcare of Atlanta has an impressive array of advanced imaging equipment sized specifically for pediatric patients:
- Nine state-of-the-art 1.5T and 3T magnetic resonance imaging machines;
- Six CT scanners plus one mobile CT scanner;
- One PET scanner; and
- One new intraoperative 3T MRI scanner is located at Children’s Scottish Rite Hospital.
Research
Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and Emory University collaboratively pursue excellence and innovation in pediatric research. The Emory Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences conducts a broad range of clinical and translational research in collaboration with colleagues at Children’s and other Emory departments and research centers.
Investigators at Emory have access to a comprehensive range of core facilities and innovative technologies to support their research. Along with advanced tools and equipment, Emory's integrated core facilities offer the expertise of multidisciplinary teams experienced in health sciences research.
One such core facility is the Center for Systems Imaging Core. The center boasts both human and animal imaging capabilities, with several 3T MR scanners and HRRT PET for human studies and MR and PET-CT imaging for small animal studies. The center also has exceptional expertise in pediatric imaging research, thanks to longstanding partnerships with Children’s and the Marcus Autism Center, one of only five centers designated by the National Institutes of Health as an Autism Center of Excellence.
Another core is the Medical Imaging, Informatics, and AI Core.
The Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences has six areas of research discovery. Areas of interest related to pediatric imaging include the following:
- Development and use of advanced techniques in ultrasound, CT scan, MRI, nuclear medicine, and interventional radiology; and
- Innovative techniques in pediatric radiology education.
Children's and Emory additionally advance research nationally through partnerships with the following entities:
