For most rotations, the residents' workday begins at 8 a.m. and ends around 5 p.m. Our residents enjoy a collegial work environment with fellow residents and faculty. We have a culture of teamwork and are supportive of each other, whether by sharing study materials, assisting with the daily workload, or making call switches when the need arises.
A dedicated biweekly curriculum for first year residents provides strong support during the challenging first year. Residents at all levels form study groups to prepare for overnight call and for board examinations.
After Work
Emory Radiology has a long tradition of camaraderie among resident classes, both at and outside of work. Social activities include resident-run happy hours in fun Atlanta locations such as Virginia Highlands, Little Five Points, and Midtown; poker nights; trivia nights; and playing in a local softball league.
Residents also participate in team building activities throughout the year and have an annual weekend retreat (typically in September).
Metro Atlanta is a wonderful place for families and singles alike, with world-class arts and sports, myriad concert venues, recreational facilities and parks, and more. The Emory campus also offers cultural and recreational opportunities. Click here to learn more about life in Atlanta.
Departmental Social Activities
In addition to these informal resident-bonding activities, the Emory Department of Radiology sponsors several annual events that bring trainees, faculty, and staff together for socializing.
Emory Radiology sponsors a family-friendly social in early July to welcome new fellows and residents. This is a great opportunity to meet other trainees, program faculty, staff an their families in a relaxed atmosphere.
A more formal graduation dinner welcomes adult family members to celebrate with their graduates and program faculty.
Additionally, the department sponsors an annual reception for Emory residents, faculty, and alumni at RSNA and AUR conferences. Other social events vary from year to year; a recent success was our Fall Ball.
