We have the ample resources that come with having a big program but focus on maintaining the feel of a small, close-knit family. We support each other and enjoy a collaborative, collegial working atmosphere.
Case Mix and Volume
Very few radiology programs offer the high volume and exposure to such a diverse caseload from multiple tertiary care hospitals, a large level-I trauma center/community hospital, a stand-alone and renowned children’s hospital, and numerous community imaging centers. Our residents graduate with the confidence and experience to work in practically any environment--academic or private practice.
Resident-Led-Innovation
We encourage our residents to take charge of their training. Residents serve on department committees responsible for curriculum development, program oversight, and departmental policies. Each year our residents also receive research and teaching grants from places like RSNA, serve on national committees, and present at national and international meetings. From our Resident Tracks to the Adopt-A-Resident Program, residents receive the support they need to turn their big ideas into reality.
Faculty Excellence
Our subspecialty-trained faculty are recognized leaders in clinical care, research, and education. They also are nationally renowned for their contributions to professional associations including RSNA, AUR, ACR, ABR, ASNR, SIR, SIIM, and to setting standards of care such as BI-RADS.
Well-Rounded Curriculum
Our educational curriculum consists of teaching sessions (e.g., didactics, case conferences, etc.), rotations, and call. We work hard to make sure that this experience is balanced over the years and is of the highest quality.
Fellowships with Emory Radiology
We train a large number of fellows in all subspecialties, which is a testament to the strength of each division. Our fellows are great resources and mentors for residents and are trained in teaching residents.
A Holistic Approach
We are pro-family and believe in work-life balance. We have excellent and affordable childcare minutes away from Emory's main campus, and offer parental leave for new parents. We support multiple special experiences, including a faculty mentor program, Business of Medicine/Business of Radiology curricula, wellness and safety programs, and resident retreats.
Training That Aligns with Career Goals
Residency Tracks provide opportunities for residents to pursue additional training and experience specific to their career goals. Regardless of which track a resident pursues, there are ample opportunities to engage in teaching, research, quality improvement, global health, imaging informatics, and more throughout their residency years.
Living in Atlanta
Atlanta is a thriving metropolis far more affordable than older cities on the East and West coasts. We have great food, beautiful parks, professional and recreational sports teams, inspiring museums, and exciting performing arts venues of all sizes. We're home to the CDC, UPS, and The Coca-Cola Company, to name a few of our hometown heroes. The mountains of North Georgia are only an hour away, while the North Carolina and South Carolina mountains are about three hours away. Savannah and the Atlantic coast are only four hours away, and the Gulf coast is not much farther.
Success after Residency
Our residents do extremely well with fellowships and finding great jobs. Many of them stay with us, but we’ve also enjoyed great success sending residents to outstanding academic radiology departments as well as highly respected private practices. Our alumni network is growing and ready to help.
