Emory University School of Medicine’s Department of Radiation Oncology is pleased to announce several new departmental leadership appointments, which will take effect April 1.
“I believe in leadership structures that empower people to deliver on specific initiatives across our tripartite mission of clinical care, education and research,” says Reshma Jagsi, MD, DPhil, chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology. “After listening to what many of you have shared with me in my first months here, I’m excited to announce these new leadership roles that aim to empower faculty leaders to accelerate improvements in specific mission areas.”
Jolinta Lin, MD, will become director of the Physician Residency Program. Lin, who previously served as the program’s associate director, will be supported by two new associate program directors: Jill Remick, MD, and Soumon Rudra, MD. Anees H. Dhabaan, PhD, DABR, will continue to serve as director of the Medical Physics Residency Program. Mohammad Khan, MD, PhD, has been named vice chair for education, to complement and extend the department’s educational efforts beyond its outstanding residency programs.
Pretesh Patel, MD, who previously served as director of the department’s Physician Residency Program, will assume a new role as vice chair for clinical operations. Patel will work closely with three other newly appointed vice chairs: Kristin Higgins, MD, the new vice chair in clinical research; Ashish Patel, MD, the new vice chair for quality and safety; and Shannon Kahn, MD, the new vice chair for outreach and collaboration.
Higgins, Patel and Kahn will continue to serve as medical directors for the Clifton, Emory Decatur Hospital and Emory Saint Joseph’s campuses. Also continuing as medical directors are Jay Shelton, MD, (Grady), Mark McDonald, MD (Emory Proton Therapy Center), and Karen Godette, MD (Winship at Emory Midtown, scheduled to open in May 2023). Together, these leaders will work closely with disease site leads to elevate the efficiency, quality, equity and impact of care delivery across the Emory Healthcare system.
Additional newly created leadership roles will focus on scholarship and career development. David Yu, MD, PhD, has been named vice chair for biology research; Xiaofeng Yang, PhD, has been named vice chair for medical physics research; and Hyunsuk Shim, PhD, will lead the new Promotions Committee, which is designed to empower faculty to succeed.
Jagsi notes that other new leadership roles are in development that will focus on academic affairs, faculty development, diversity, equity and inclusion, and strategy, among other key areas.
