Winship researchers present at IASLC 2021 World Conference on Lung Cancer

Several investigators from Winship Cancer Institute and Emory's Department of Radiation Oncology presented at the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer 2021's world conference, held virtually from September 8 – 14.

Kristin Higgins, MD, associate professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology, co-chaired the conference with David H. Harpole Jr., MD, professor of surgery in the Duke University School of Medicine, and Thomas A. Stinchcombe, MD, professor of medicine at the Duke University School of Medicine. The annual World Conference on Lung Cancer is one of the largest gatherings of clinicians, researchers, and scientists who specialize in lung cancer.

"It is an honor to co-chair a conference that is bringing together a wide range of diverse multi-disciplinary cancer researchers from around the world who specialize in lung cancer," says Higgins.

On September 11, Higgins moderated an early career workshop with her fellow co-chairs. During the workshop, she gave a presentation on "How to Create Your First Clinical Trial."

Winship Executive Director Suresh Ramalingam, MD, gave two presentations. One was an ePoster, and oral presentation on "The Impact of COVID-19 on Patients with Lung Cancer." He also presented during an Industry Symposium on "Recent Advances and Current Approaches to Address Unmet Needs in Advanced NSCLC."

Madhusmita Behera, PhD, director of IT/Information and Winship Data and Technology Applications presented an ePoster on "Natural History and Real-World Treatment Outcomes for NSCLC Patients with EGFR Exon 20 Insertion Mutation: An IASLC-ASCO CancerLinQ Study."

Physician resident Sarah Westergaard, MD, gave an oral presentation on "Patient Factors Associated with Engagement of an Academic Institution Tobacco Cessation Referral Program."
