Winship radiation oncologists including new interim chair of the Winship Department of Radiation Oncology, Jeff Bradley, MD, FACR, FASTRO, Deborah Watkins Bruner, RN, PhD, FAAN, Kristin Higgins, MD, and previous chair of the department Walter J. Curran, Jr., MD, FACR, FASCO presented at the NRG Oncology semiannual meeting held virtually Jan. 28-30.
The winter plenary session featured a keynote address by Bruner on the federal funding landscape.
Curran, who stepped down from his position as the NRG Oncology Group Chair in mid-January, was the general session honored speaker. Bruner, who also presented during the general session, gave an update on the NRG National Cancer Institute Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP) Research Base.
Higgins presented her study "NRG/Alliance LU005 Limited-stage SCLC" at the lung cancer workshop. She was elected to the board of directors of NRG Oncology in December 2020.
Bradley chaired the lung cancer workshop which reviewed 14 clinical trials that are either open to accrual or in development within the lung cancer committee of NRG Oncology. During the presentation, Bradley noted changes in NRG Oncology clinical trial enrollment during the COVID-19 pandemic, consistent with other NCI-sponsored trials.
