The Emory Proton Therapy Center received accreditation from the American College of Radiology (ACR) for diagnostic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) effective December 17, 2019.
The American College of Radiology's MRI Accreditation Program evaluates staff qualifications, quality control, safety policies, and magnetic resonance image quality.
The MRI at the proton center may be used to obtain images for initial evaluation, radiation treatment planning, treatment response assessment, or follow-up care, and is the first MRI located within the Department of Radiation Oncology at Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University.
"This accreditation demonstrates our commitment to the highest quality care for our patients who can be assured they are being cared for by experienced staff, using state-of-the-art equipment, and will receive the benefit of diagnostic interpretation by our subspecialized colleagues in radiology," says Mark McDonald, MD, Winship radiation oncologist and medical director of the proton center.
