Winship welcomes Katina Wood, Administrator and Director of Operations for the Emory Proton Therapy Center.
In her new role, Wood will focus on creating an infrastructure and culture for the best care for our patients receiving proton therapy as a component of their care.
Wood's career started in the United States Army where she tested the environment for radiation exposure. She received her bachelor's degree in radiologic science from Indiana University and then attended Grady Health System's School of Radiation Therapy. Wood completed her Master's Degree in Healthcare Administration while working at the Emory Clinic as a radiation therapist.
In 2002, Wood became the director of Grady's Radiation Oncology Center and School of Radiation Therapy and assisted with the development of the Georgia Cancer Center of Excellence. She later joined Trinity Health creating hospital start-ups throughout the Midwest. The most recent was a joint venture with Brian Kelly, football coach of Notre Dame and Trinity Health.
"Helping create the vision at the Emory Proton Therapy Center is a perfect fit given my background," Wood says. "It is a wonderful opportunity to bring this state of the art technology to patients in Georgia and the Southeast."
