Maxine Washington, the new Director of Radiation Therapy joined Winship's Department of Radiation Oncology on September 17. She will focus on optimizing utilization of resources and improving efficiency of operational throughput.

Maxine Washington, the new Director of Radiation Therapy joined Winship's Department of Radiation Oncology on September 17. Born in Albany, Georgia and raised in Chicago, Maxine attended the Michael Reese Hospital/Chicago Citywide College School of Radiation Therapy. She completed her undergraduate study at Governors State University in University Park, Illinois and received her masters from The University of Phoenix. She began work as a staff Radiation Therapist at St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin Illinois and then worked at the University of Chicago Medicine as a Technical Manager of Radiation Therapy before joining Winship.
As Director of Radiation Therapy, Washington will focus on optimizing utilization of resources and improving efficiency of operational throughput. In partnership with radiation oncology leadership, she will facilitate the application of standard processes as well as identify best practices to develop patient and value-focused workflows in each of Winship's practice locations.
Winship Executive Director and Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology Walter J. Curran, Jr., MD says, "Maxine is a wonderful addition to the department. Her expertise in curating effective processes and the most efficient use of resources will ensure that patients are at the center of our operational efforts. This is imperative for the current and future landscape of healthcare."
Washington will also be working closely with the new Emory Proton Therapy Center, which is set to open in early December. Katina Wood, director of operations at the Emory Proton Therapy Center states, "We are very excited to have Maxine on board. She will be instrumental in directing therapy operations and coordinating resources at the proton center that impact the patient experience and sustainability."
