Didactics
During each academic year, residents spend protected time in a range of structured educational activities, including:
- Weekly faculty-led didactic lectures focusing on the clinical and technical management of gastrointestinal, gynecologic, genitourinary, lymphoma/leukemia, head and neck, breast, adult CNS, thoracic, and adult and pediatric malignancies.
- Weekly Winship Cancer Institute Grand Rounds presented by experts at Emory University and invited faculty from across the country
- Weekly patient care review (Chart Rounds)
- Medical Physics course presented by Division of Medical Physics faculty and instructors
- Radiobiology course presented by Division of Cancer Biology faculty and instructors
- Monthly Mortality and Morbidity Conference
- Monthly Journal Club
- Disease site specific tumor board based on current rotation and/or faculty mentor
Career Development
In addition, the program offers a number of special opportunities to promote professional skills development, including:
- Fundamentals in Clinical Research, a required 12-week training course during the PGY-3 year to develop a complete research proposal including education in biostatistics and practical experience with disease site working groups and the Emory Institutional Review Board
- Emory Healthcare Quality Academy: Leadership for Healthcare Improvement Course
- Emory Global Health Residency Scholars Program, a year-long curriculum including a one month clinical rotation in Ethiopia
