Applicants interested in joining our program must apply through the Medical Physics Residency Application Program (MP-RAP) and register with the Medical Physics Residency Matching Program (MedPhys Match). All applications will be considered by an admission committee and evaluated initially based on the submitted application material. Selected candidates will be invited for an on-site interview. Following the on-site interview, a rank list will be prepared and submitted to the MedPhys Match for matching. Candidates need to be registered with MedPhys Match for final matching.
Applications must be received by December 31 for a start date of July 1 of the following year.
All trainees entering our Medical Physics Residency program are required to have a strong foundation in basic physics. This must be demonstrated either by an undergraduate or graduate degree in physics, or by a degree in an engineering discipline, or another of the physical sciences, with coursework that is the equivalent of a minor in physics (one that includes at least three upper-level undergraduate physics courses).
In addition, residents must either:
- Have graduated from a CAMPEP-accredited PhD graduate program
- Have completed one of the alternate pathways below:
- Possess a PhD in physics or related discipline and have completed a CAMPEP-accredited certificate program, or
- Have a PhD in physics or related discipline and have satisfactorily completed courses equivalent to those in a CAMPEP-accredited certificate program, as determined by the Program Steering Committee.
Interview Process
Selected candidates will be invited to Emory for an interview typically in February. Each interviewee will meet with the admission committee members, and tour the department. They will also get a chance to interact with current residents. The entire visit including the interview will be held in one day usually between 8 am and 5 pm.
