During the COVID-19 Pandemic, we have been offering telemedicine appointments. We are also available for in person visits on a case by case scenario.
Infant Parent Dyadic Therapy
Together with your child, parents will explore their own early childhood experiences that may be affecting their current relationship with their child, have support to read their child's cues, and find more mutually satisfying ways of connection. We aim for good enough parenting rather than perfect parenting.
Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)
Originally created for the treatment of defiance in children with attentional and hyperactivity problems, this evidence-based therapy is best suited for children ages 2 1/2 to 6. PCIT has been adapted to help children with anxiety, selective mutism, poor emotion regulation, and children with developmental delays. Parents learn the skills and are provided live coaching through a bug in the ear so the focus is solely on the parent child relationship. We teach parents play skills and then how to deliver effective commands. The PCIT clinic is a long-standing service run by Dr. Marianne Celano.
Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)
TF-CBT is designed for ages 3-18 and always closely involves a supportive caregiver to treat traumatic stress symptoms. Of the trauma treatments, it has the most research showing that it works. Together, with the young child, we help them tell the story of what happened to them so we can understand the past and know that it is safely in the past. The therapy culminates in sharing this story with a caregiver and celebrating the insights gained.
Neuropsychological Evaluation
Our developmental psychologist can provide testing for children ages 0-3 if you are concerned there may be a developmental delay. Delays in language can be particularly frustrating for children and lead to behavior challenges.
Psychiatric Assessment
Our team includes three psychiatrists that have a grasp on the unique aspects of early childhood development. We will help to identify any supports available before using medication to address the young child's needs.
If you have concerns about exposures to substances or medications and how that may have affected your child, Emory is home to the Neurodevelopmental Exposures Clinic which will provide a comprehensive assessment for your child. Emory also has a Women's Mental Health Clinic for women struggling with mood and anxiety disorders during and after childbirth. The SPRITE clinic will work alongside the Neurodevelopmental Exposures Clinic and the Women's Mental Health Clinic to support families.
