The Child OCD Program at Emory (COPE) is a telehealth-based intensive outpatient program for adolescents ages 12-18 with moderate to severe obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD).
Who can benefit?
Our program suits teens (ages 12-18) with moderate to severe OCD. This includes teens who have not made sufficient progress in weekly outpatient therapy, as well as those stepping down from higher levels of care (e.g., a residential or partial hospitalization program).
What does the program involve?
Participants attend the IOP from 3-5 PM, Monday through Thursday. The first hour focuses on skill-building, drawing from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). The second hour focuses on Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the gold-standard treatment for OCD. Skills are taught in group format, and ERP sessions include a mix of group and individual work.
In addition to scheduled programming, participants are assigned a therapist who will meet with them for one individual and one family session per week. These sessions allow participants to supplement their work in the program and address individualized needs.
Since OCD impacts the entire family, parent involvement is an integral part of the program. In addition to family therapy, parents join one group per week to learn skills and observe ERP.
Why participate?
We use evidence-based treatments that can help participants gain freedom from OCD and improve their quality of life. Treatment gains can be made more quickly than would be possible with weekly outpatient therapy. By including parents in the program, we prepare families to maintain progress after the program concludes.
When is the program available?
New participants join every four weeks, and they remain in the program for 4-12 weeks depending on what would be most helpful given their needs.
Where is the program located?
We provide our services via HIPAA Compliant Zoom video conferencing. This allows us to provide care across the state of Georgia.
Does the program accept insurance?
We accept many health insurance plans and offer a sliding scale. Please contact us for more information.
