The start date for the residency is variable and depends upon the position and the timing of the resident’s completion of the dissertation and internship. Positions may begin as early as July 1 and as late as the third Monday in September. Start dates are negotiable.
The stipend is $61,008 (plus fringe) at present and for the 2025-2026 training year; it will be increased in accord with the NIH salaries for postdoctoral fellows/residents. Residents may pay a parking fee (site dependent), and are eligible for health, dental and optical insurance. They also have an option to obtain life insurance. Further, they have access to a flexible spending account program for medical and/or childcare purposes. Residents employed by Emory University also receive 15 compensated business days of vacation, up to 12 compensated business days for sick leave, 11 official paid Emory University holidays (New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday, Memorial Day, Juneteenth Holiday, Independence Day (July 4), Labor Day, Thanksgiving Holiday (Thursday and Friday), Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve), and one day to take the EPPP. Please note the Pediatric Neuropsychology residents are employed through Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta rather than the Emory University School of Medicine. Although the overall stipend is the same as the other residency positions, some of the benefits differ from those described in the Benefits section above. Benefits for the Pediatric Neuropsychology position are described in the CHOA Neuropsychology Residency brochure. Residents observe holidays as observed in their primary placement. As employees or affiliates of Emory University, all Residents have access to the libraries, gym ($25/month for Emory gym or reduced rates at local athletic clubs) and the wealth of educational and cultural activities offered by the University. Residents have easy access to computers and relevant computer software, email, internet and methodological/ statistical consultation. There is adequate office space, supplies and testing materials to support the work of each of the residents.
All individuals accepted into the program must complete specific onboarding requirements prior to the start of the postdoctoral residency program. These include orientation, background checks and pre-employment health assessments. Regarding background checks, Grady Health System, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and Emory Healthcare – Emory Brain Health Center all require criminal background checks, and these background checks cannot reveal any prior felony convictions. Misdemeanor conviction detected on background check would require review before a decision could be made regarding postdoctoral residency employment status. Health assessments include drug testing and proof of immunization. All sites include tobacco screening, and for the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta locations, this must reveal no use of nicotine. Postdoctoral residents are required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination, including booster vaccines, prior to beginning their training and will be expected to adhere to any additional COVID-19 requirements that may be implemented during the training year. Exceptions may be made only for those with approved medical exemptions. Final acceptance into our program is contingent on passing the background check, finger printing, drug testing, etc., that is required at each of the institutions associated with the program. Per Emory University policy, an offer of employment would be rescinded if a postdoctoral resident does not pass drug testing or if the background check reveals a history of a felony conviction. Misdemeanor conviction detected on background check would require review before a decision could be made regarding employment status.
