Application Procedures
The internship program supports 8 intern positions, including 3 on the general track, 1 on the trauma track, 2 on the neuropsychology track adult/pediatric concentration, and 2 on the neuropsychology track adult/geriatric concentration. Internship applicants must complete the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC) online APPIC Application for Psychology Internships (AAPI) application form. Three letters of recommendation are required as part of the AAPI online application. Our program does not require supplementary materials (e.g., testing or case report work samples) that are not a part of the regular AAPI online application. Online application instructions and specific application criteria are available from the APPIC website. Applicants also must register for the APPIC Internship Matching Program. The deadline date for completed applications is Friday, November 1, 2024 at 11:59 pm Eastern Time.
Please note prominently in your cover letter the internship experience and track(s) for which you are applying (General and/or Trauma Track of the General Internship Experience; Adult/Geriatric and/or Adult/Pediatric Concentration of the Neuropsychology Track). Please be aware that there is a separate match code for each of these tracks. The tracks for which you are applying must also be specified in your AAPI online application. Applicants may apply to more than one track.
The match codes for the respective tracks are as follows:
- 123011 - General Internship Track
- 123013 - Trauma Track
- 123014 - Adult/Pediatric Neuropsychology Track
- 123015 - Adult/Geriatric Neuropsychology Track
All materials are reviewed by a selection committee. Applicant adherence to the internship program’s minimum requirements, quality of applicant credentials as reflected in the written application materials, and degree of match between applicant goals/experiences and the program of training we offer all are key considerations in the application review process. Approximately 30 – 35 applicants for the general internship experience tracks (general and trauma) and 25 – 30 applicants for the neuropsychology tracks (adult/geriatric and adult/pediatric) are invited to participate in interviews. Applicants will be notified about their application status no later than November 20, 2024.
All interviews are conducted virtually via videoconference technology with no option for on-site interviews available. Those without videoconference access have the option of completing interviews via telephone. Separate interview dates are held for the general/trauma tracks and the neuropsychology track of the internship. These interview dates are scheduled in December 2024 and January 2025. The virtual interview day is comprised of an introductory overview presentation that describes the internship training experience followed by a series of individual interviews.
Following the interview process, we establish a ranking of applicants for each track and this ranking determines the applicant order that we send to the APPIC Internship Matching Program for the computer match process. The internship program conforms to all APPIC selection policies (please see the APPIC web site at www.appic.org). This internship site agrees to abide by the APPIC policy that no person at this training facility will solicit, accept, or use any ranking related information from any internship applicant.
Onboarding Requirements for Accepted Interns
All interns accepted into the program must complete specific onboarding requirements prior to the start of internship. These include orientation and pre-employment health assessments, proof of immunization, background checks and drug testing through Emory, Grady, and the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA) as conditions of employment. For the CHOA locations, the drug screen includes no use of nicotine. Per Emory University policy, an offer of employment would be rescinded in the event that an intern does not pass drug testing or if the background check reveals a history of a felony conviction. Misdemeanor conviction detected on background check would require review before a decision could be made regarding intern employment status.
