Emory's Combined Internal Medicine and Psychiatry residency is a five-year program that is an integration of the categorical Internal Medicine residency program and the General Psychiatry residency program. Residents who complete this residency program are eligible for both the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology exams. The five-year residency is divided equally between Internal Medicine and Psychiatry rotations.
Our combined residency program trains physicians to possess the knowledge and skills necessary to provide high quality, comprehensive, integrated patient care. Our graduates practice both medicine and psychiatry in a wide variety of career paths including combinations of primary care, hospital medicine, academic medicine, medicine and psychiatry consult liaison, integrated medicine and psychiatry clinics, emergency psychiatry, inpatient psychiatry, outpatient psychiatry and psychotherapy. Additionally, upon completion of the 5-year program, combined medicine and psychiatry graduates are eligible for subspecialty fellowships in medicine or psychiatry.
