Emory University’s Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences invites medical students from groups underrepresented in medicine, including but not limited to underrepresented minorities and individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds to apply for our Visiting Elective in Psychiatry. Our department is committed to fostering an inclusive learning community where our trainees develop into outstanding clinicians, educators, researchers, and leaders who address health disparities at the local, national, and global levels. This clerkship specifically targets students who intend to apply to and pursue a career in Psychiatry and offers medical students from groups underrepresented in psychiatry a clinical experience in our academic department. This program was created to promote interest in applying to the psychiatry program at Emory and generating interest in practicing psychiatry in the state of Georgia upon completion of residency training. The visiting elective exposes students to a thriving academic medical center with diverse clinical sites and patient populations, as well as various careers in Psychiatry.
