Carolyn grew up in Illinois, then earned a degree in psychology from Yale University. She worked in the mental health field including work with patients with serious mental illness and also at a mental health non-profit startup. Her research on mindfulness as a treatment for nicotine addiction was published in the journal Neuropsychopharmacology. She was awarded the Mary Kay and John Oxley Foundation Merit Scholarship for the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine at Tulsa. In addition to her interest in serious mental illness, she is also considering being a child and adolescent psychiatrist. When not hard at work, she enjoys running, cooking, reading and gardening – she has a sunflower almost two stories tall!
