Michael graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Illinois, Urbana/Champaign, where he majored in Molecular and Cellular Biology. Following this, he worked as a laboratory analyst at the Institute for Environmental Health Laboratories in central Washington. While in WA, Michael assisted in local food insecurity efforts including leading the Empty Bowls event that brought together over 500 people for a meal to build awareness in the community. In medical school, Michael worked on an interdisciplinary team on a quality improvement project in the Illinois Department of Corrections, specifically on the patient safety team. He also was selected to serve as a clinical tutor for the Doctoring in Clinical Skills courses for second-year medical students. He also enjoyed volunteering for the Night Ministry serving on the Health Outreach bus and connecting to his community. His interests outside of medicine include playing the piano and experimenting with Ableton (music production software), as well as writing and drawing, playing video games with friends, and working on projects (building a whole cat tree) to improve the quality of life for his two cats (Mordecai and Hubert) with his partner Shaina.
