Chandler is a Georgia native and graduate of the University of Georgia and Mercer University School of Medicine. He became interested in mental health as an undergraduate while conducting research studying cognitive control in STEM majors and analyzing brain MRI scans from individuals with schizophrenia. In medical school he also conducted bench research on proteins involved with breast cancer. His overall academic record, professionalism and leadership led to his induction into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. Chandler was chosen by his peers for induction into the Arnold P. Gold Humanism Honor Society for demonstrating the characteristics that best exemplify the type of physician that his peers would want as a physician for a loved one. Highly engaged with his classmates and peers in and out of school, he served as a student ambassador and peer tutor and also formed recreational volleyball, softball and soccer teams while in medical school. He also served as secretary and coffee team leader of the local Christian Medical Organization.
