Thank you for your interest in Emory University General Psychiatry Residency Program. We offer thirteen PGY-1 positions (eleven categorical and two research track) and a limited number of second year positions for General Psychiatry. Each year we typically receive more than 1,500 applications and interview approximately 180 candidates. We conduct a holistic review of application materials and base our candidate selection on a number of factors. We examine applicants’ academic achievement and clinical acumen, interpersonal qualities including self-motivation and intellectual curiosity, diversity and inclusion considerations, leadership activities and research and scholarly potential.
Applying for a PGY-1 Position
We only accept PGY-1 applications for the NRMP Match through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). All applications are reviewed for consideration of invitation to interview. Applications will be downloaded beginning September 25, 2024, and the deadline for applications is December 31, 2024. Candidates are encouraged to apply early as interview slots are limited.
Within NRMP and ERAS, we offer two tracks:
- Psychiatry (“Psychiatry,” NRMP Program Code: 1113400C0)
- Research Track (“Psychiatry/Research,” NRMP Program Code: 1113400C1)
To complete the application process for a PGY-1 position, the following materials must be completed in ERAS:
- MyERAS application
- Curriculum vitae (CV)
- Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE)
- Medical School Transcript
- Personal Statement
- USMLE or COMLEX scores
- Three letters of recommendation
For the 2025 ERAS® cycle, our program will be collecting and reviewing data from applicants’ supplemental ERAS applications. Completion of the standard MyERAS application is a requirement; completion of the supplemental ERAS application is optional.
The supplemental ERAS application is designed to help applicants share more information about themselves and assist our program in finding applicants that fit our program’s setting and mission. There is no cost to applicants and participation is optional.
The supplemental ERAS application provides:
- geographic preferences (by division and by urban or rural setting);
- information about an applicant’s most meaningful experiences and other impactful life events, if applicable; and
- program signals (in keeping with AAMC guidance, we suggest that applicants signal their most interested programs regardless of whether they are home or away rotations).
Applying for a PGY-2 Position
We typically offer one PGY-2 position each year. If applying for a PGY-2 position, you may apply through ERAS or you may submit a paper application to the Residency Education Office. Download the paper application. The required application materials include: curriculum vitae, psychiatry personal statement, medical student transcript, and USMLE or COMLEX scores.
