Rotations

The Emory Transplant Center ranks 7th nationally among transplant programs based on adult transplant volumes. Kidney and liver transplants are in the top 10 nationwide. The two transplant centers in the state of Georgia are Emory Transplant Center and Piedmont Atlanta Hospital. Emory transplants the following solid organs: heart, liver, lung, and kidney/pancreas.

During the 9-month rotation at the Emory Transplant Center, you will be integral in the multidisciplinary approach to care for pre-and post-transplant patients. Responsibilities include performing pre- transplant assessments, donor psychosocial evaluations and caring for patients pre- and post-transplant. 

Atlanta VA Medical Center (VAMC), a Joint Commission and Magnet®-designated medical facility sits on 26 acres in Decatur, Georgia—just minutes from downtown Atlanta. The main medical center is a level 1A tertiary care facility providing patient-centered healthcare via an array of comprehensive medical, surgical, geriatric specialty services, as well as state-of–the-art diagnostic testing throughout 14 sites of care. With 466 inpatient beds, including a 120-bed Community Living Center, a 40-bed domiciliary, and a 21-bed Residential Treatment Program, the Atlanta VAMC is uniquely positioned to serve the healthcare needs of more than 130,000 enrolled Veterans living in 50 counties across northeast Georgia. The Medical Center, also a teaching hospital, provides hands-on and state-of-the-art technology, education, and research to residents in collaboration with Emory University School of Medicine and Morehouse School of Medicine.

Grady Memorial Hospital is staffed by close to 700 Emory medical faculty (full-time equivalent of 270). In addition, 366 Emory residents and fellows provide care at Grady under supervision of the faculty. Together, these Emory physicians provide about 85% of care at Grady. Emory provides care at Grady in collaboration with Morehouse School of Medicine. 

Grady has a regional perinatal center for high-risk mothers and babies, a neonatal intensive care unit, a diabetes center, a teen center, the Georgia Poison Center, a rape crisis center, a regional burn center, a sickle cell center, a comprehensive treatment program for HIV/AIDS, a level I trauma center, a stroke center, and the Georgia Cancer Center for Excellence.

The Ponce De Leon Center is one of the largest, most comprehensive facilities dedicated to the treatment of advanced HIV/AIDS in the United States. Founded in 1986, the Ponce Center and its onsite affiliates provide various medical and support services to approximately 5000 eligible men, women, adolescents, and children living with HIV/AIDS.

The Ponce Center integrates primary internal medicine and Infectious Disease subspecialty care in the Main, Family and Transition Clinics. Staffed by doctors, nurse practitioners and physician assistants, nurses and more than 100 interagency staff. Our care teams seamlessly provide onsite medical, support and community services.
