...as answered by our fellows.
Emory’s child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship offers a wide variety of clinical experiences, with a diversity of clinical sites and patient populations. Fellows have the opportunity to see patients across a range of ages, from infants and young children to college students.
Our program offers many specialized experiences such as assessment and treatment of autism, developmental disorders, eating disorders, in utero exposures, adolescent substance use, forensic psychiatry within the juvenile justice system, and family therapy with live supervision.
One invaluable part of training at Emory is the people we work with. We work with many Emory faculty as well as adjunct faculty who work outside the Emory system in the community. Our faculty are very invested in teaching and training fellows. They offer a broad range of perspectives to give fellows a well-rounded training experience.
Another valuable part of training at Emory is living in Atlanta. Atlanta is a large city with a small town feel. Often described as a “city of neighborhoods,” Atlanta prides itself on its art and cultural scene, top tier restaurants, numerous parks and green spaces, and affordable cost of living. Atlanta offers access to the world’s largest airport for convenient, direct flights both domestic and overseas. Atlanta also offers many world class attractions, such as the Georgia Aquarium (second largest aquarium in the world), Zoo Atlanta (one of only 4 zoos in the US with pandas), the High Museum of Art, the beltline (a 22 mile walking trail connecting all parks in the city), the civil rights museum, and the birthplace of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Atlanta also boasts affordable living with 3 bedroom homes available for around $300,000 within the city, and mild winters that get a bit cold but rarely have snow. Finally, Atlanta also provides the perfect spot for outdoor adventures, with mountain hikes and vineyards within an hour from the city, tons of public parks in town, and both beaches and the Smoky Mountains within a 4 hour drive.
