We recently recruited Dr. Yueming Zhu as an assistant professor from Northwestern University. Dr. Zhu graduated from The University of Iowa in 2011 with PhD in Free Radical and Radiation Biology. He finished his postdoctoral training at Northwestern. With 8 years of experience in cancer biology research, Dr. Zhu possess advanced knowledge in protein post-translational modification, genomic instability, immunotherapy and breast cancer murine model.
As a research assistant professor in Dr. Wan’s laboratory at Northwestern University, he generated critical preliminary science data which greatly facilitated the transitions from bench work research to clinical trial. In addition, he have a wealth of experience in conducting cancer biomedical research including developing research strategies, collecting and analyzing science data, presenting in industry conferences, and publishing in top peer-reviewed journals such as Nature Communication, JCI, PNAs and Cancer research et al.
His research addresses one of the fundamental observations in oncology – the dysregulation of protein post-translational modification is an established hallmark of cancer and an early event in tumorigenesis. His recent project identified an important role of post-translational modification in regulating an immune check point protein CD73 enzymatic function. With an extensive background in breast cancer biology research and project management, we believe that Dr. Zhu will significantly contribute his knowledge to our department's cancer program.
