Welcome to the Varvel Lab
The Varvel lab is located in the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia within the Department of Pharmacology and Chemical Biology. We use genetically modified mouse models, rodent models of status epilepticus, immunohistochemistry, microscopy, stereology, cell culture, and gene induction analysis to better understand the mechanisms and consequences of innate immune cell activation, recruitment, and signaling. Our mission is to identify immune-related targets to ameliorate the deleterious consequences of brain disease.
Available Positions
Postdoctoral positions are available in the laboratories of Nicholas Varvel and Ray Dingledine in the Department of Pharmacology and Chemical Biology at Emory University School of Medicine. Successful applicants will be team players and join a growing research group investigating neuroinflammation in acute and chronic neurologic disease, including epilepsy and Alzheimer’s disease. Individuals will work on projects funded by the NIH and private foundation grants investigating the mechanisms and consequences of innate immune cell activation, recruitment, and signaling, using mouse models of epilepsy and Alzheimer’s disease. Successful applicants should have expertise in molecular and cellular biology, histology, mouse modeling, and neurobiology. Previous experience with flow cytometry, rodent behavior, microscopy, and stereology will be advantageous.
Applicants should submit a cover letter with a statement of research interests, a CV, and a list of at least 3 references to Ds. Nicholas Varvel, via email.
