Clinical Distinctions Committee
While not in lieu of academic promotion, this program recognizes Emory faculty for outstanding clinical service in categories including Quality of Care and Patient Satisfaction, Innovation and Citizenship.
The clinical distinctions committee, led by Drs. Judson Miller and Stephanie Jernigan, is made up of dedicated faculty in the department of pediatrics. This group is tasked with identifying and nominating members of our department who exemplify the best in the above categories with designations of Senior, Distinguished and Eminent physician based on years of service. Once nominated, the committee will continue to assist potential candidates through the process and advocate for them at the school level committee with representation by Dr. Miller. Distinctions are conferred in September.
Appointments & Promotions Committee
The Department of Pediatrics’ Appointments and Promotions (AP) Committee assists faculty members in the department with their career advancement through the academic ranks. The committee is comprised of a diverse and thoughtful group of senior faculty, representing a variety of pediatrics specialties and areas of focus. Dr. Harold K. Simon, Marcus Professor and Vice Chair for Faculty Development serves as chair of the DOP AP Committee. The committee’s roles include:

Diversity Committee
The Department of Pediatrics strongly believes that diversity enriches and enhances our educational, research and health care missions, and is important to the career development of all faculty and staff. The Department of Pediatrics/Pediatric Institute Diversity and Inclusion Committee is a multi-divisional body created to realize this belief. Under the leadership of our committee, departmental strategic initiatives for diversity and inclusion have been identified. Our committee is actively engaged in program development in support of these initiatives which have a strong focus on the development of underrepresented minorities in medicine and women. We are also engaged in departmental diversity education, bias training, leadership recruitment, and residency program recruitment. Our committee works collaboratively with the diversity councils of Emory School of Medicine and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta to maintain alignment of goals.
