Mission Statement
To recruit, cultivate, and maintain a diverse network of residents, fellows and attendings where the primary goal is to provide quality, socially-conscious care to the patients and families representative of the Greater Atlanta area. We strive to implement a residency program that is strengthened by diversity, while training more under-represented minorities individuals to lead in the communities they serve.

- Huge refugee population
- 3rd highest LGBTQIA+ community in the US
- Children's + Grady Sickle Cell Clinic = Largest Sickle Cell Center in the world

Current and Past Initiatives:
- Longitudinal DEI Curriculum:
- Annual Implicit Bias and Bystander Intervention Trainings
- DEI Core Curriculum Lectures– past topics including transgender health with a patient panel, Immigrant and Refugee health, care of medically complex children with disabilities
- Health Equity Rounds – past topics including racism and sickle cell disease, contraception and forced sterilization, genetics and disparities in screening and representation, historical trauma and colorism, child welfare, and disabilities
- Scholarly Activity – presentations of DEI work at the Association for Pediatric Program Directors (APPD) conference, EUSOM MedEd Day, upcoming presentation at the ACGME conference
- Recruitment and retention of residents underrepresented in medicine (URiM)– including DEI First and Second Look Events
- Community Outreach/Advocacy with the Emory Pediatrics Advocacy Committee

- Partnership with the Emory Pipeline Collaborative (EPiC), an Emory SOM pipeline program for local high school students interested in careers in healthcare
- Beautifying community gardens, including working with the refugee-driven organization Global Growers
- Annual events including Solomon's Temple Shelter holiday party/gift event
- Cultural Celebrations in collaboration with EUSOM – including Lunar New Year with APAMSA, Black History Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, honoring Indigenous peoples; DEI art events
- Faculty Support through the Faculty Diversity Committee

- Further development of a gender care curriculum with Pediatric Endocrinology
