More than 85 percent of childhood cancer survivors experience a significant chronic health condition after treatment. These effects can occur years after treatment and may include physical, psychological and social issues. Since 2001, the Aflac Cancer Center has offered its multidisciplinary Cancer Survivorship Program to address the unique needs of childhood cancer survivors who are approximately two years off therapy.
Our program features:
-
A Survivor Clinic - that provides nationally recommended long-term follow-up care and resources for survivors of pediatric cancer and blood and marrow transplant. This multidisciplinary clinic, which has provided survivor care to over 1,600 pediatric cancer survivors over the past five years, includes specialists in oncology, endocrinology, psychology and outcomes research.
-
Innovative Research - Through discovery, innovation and collaboration, researchers at the Aflac Cancer Center are searching for ways to improve the outcomes and quality of life for survivors of childhood cancer.
