Endocrinology calls for a unique breed of doctor. We are not satisfied by just making our patients healthier, but rather have the need to understand why they become sick. As we gain a better understanding of disease pathogenesis, we become better prepared to manage the next “tough case.” We “major” in Endocrinology, but we “minor” in Cellular and Molecular Biology, Genetics & Metabolism, Biochemistry, Immunology, Laboratory Medicine, Nutrition, Social Work, and Psychology. Despite practicing pediatric endocrinology since 1987, I still learn something new from my patients and colleagues every day. - Andrew Muir, MD, Division Chair
