Research in Residency

The Department of Pathology provides an invigorating environment for residents and fellows interested in investigative pathology. Many faculty within the department are internationally renowned in their respective fields and currently serve as Principle Investigators for more than $24 million in NIH research, placing Emory in the top 5 among Departments of Pathology.

Research includes basic and translational studies in areas of diagnostic and prognostic anatomic pathology, molecular diagnostics, informatics, transfusion medicine, immunology, vaccine research and epithelial biology. This breadth of research and funding enable residents to explore a broad range of research topics within pathology.

Due to the extensive funding and breadth of research within the department, Emory residents easily find highly supportive faculty mentors with similar interests.

Funding Support Policy

In addition to receiving support from faculty mentors to conduct research, the department provides significant financial support for residents to attending meetings. Residents are offered $500.00 to attend national meetings, while those presenting original research receive $2,500.00 in financial support for travel and other expenses. This support has translated to nearly 100% of our residents presenting research at national meetings during residency.
