Emory Otolaryngology is proud to offer summer clerkships for medical students who are members of underrepresented minority groups as defined by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) that are interested in investigating a potential career in otolaryngology.
Overview
This clerkship is a structured experience involving daily one-on-one interactions with a faculty mentor in the Emory Department of Otolaryngology. The successful applicant will participate in weekly clinical and/or research activities, and will be expected to present their work both locally and nationally while publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
Interested students are encouraged to identify potential faculty mentors before submitting their application. Emory Otolaryngology has a robust specialized clinical footprint as well as active studies in all aspects of otolaryngology, with projects ranging from laboratory investigations to translational and clinical outcomes studies.
Once applicants are accepted, faculty mentors will oversee their clinical and research progress, and financial assistance will be provided for those traveling outside of metro Atlanta (i.e., credentialing waiver and a variable stipend towards travel and/or housing).
Clerkships are available throughout the year, though most applications are for the summer months. Applications and transcripts must be submitted three-to-six months prior to the desired start date. While this clerkship is available to all medical students attending LCME-approved U.S. and Canadian medical schools, financial assistance is only available to those meeting the AAMC definition of underrepresented minority groups.
Application
Please submit the following information to Dr. Amy Chen three-to-six months prior to the desired clerkship. A letter of recommendation on the applicant's behalf will also be accepted.
