Overview
The Emory Voice Center is happy to announce a call for applications for the Emory Voice Center Fellowship in Voice, Swallowing, and Upper Airway for speech language pathologists.
The Emory Voice Center is a state-of-the-art interprofessional center within the Emory University Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, and is located at Emory University Hospital Midtown, an acute care teaching hospital in Atlanta, GA, founded in 1908.
This fellowship position is a 12 month, full time, paid fellowship with a team of dedicated and skilled physicians and speech-language pathologists. The fellowship focuses exclusively on the diagnosis and treatment of voice, upper airway, and swallowing disorders in an outpatient population. While there may be some incidental exposure to other clinical specialties, this fellowship does not offer significant concentration in areas such as head/neck cancer, inpatient hospitalist practice, or trach/vent/speaking valve management.
This clinical fellowship year offers experience and training in advanced flexible and rigid endoscopic laryngeal imaging, FEES studies, modified barium swallow studies, high-resolution pharyngeal manometry, acoustic and aerodynamic voice assessment, advanced voice, swallowing and upper airway evaluation and therapy, care of the patient with laryngeal dystonia in interprofessional medical procedure clinics, and clinical research opportunities. The fellow is provided with financial support for attendance at a professional meeting during their fellowship.
Eligibility
Eligible candidates will have attended an accredited graduate program in speech-language pathology and have completed a master's level course of study prior to beginning the position. The successful candidate must have experience in the evaluation and treatment of both voice and swallowing disorders through graduate student work, and a strong academic background (particularly in voice and dysphagia coursework). The successful candidate will also have demonstrated strong extracurricular educational efforts in voice and swallowing, an interest in participating in research activities, and a desire to purse a post-fellowship career in clinical practice.
ALL applicants must have graduate transcripts that allow for completion of the required Georgia state temporary licensure (PCE for CFY applicants) or full licensure for applicants with certification. The licensure process takes a few weeks and must be completed prior to the start date. For information on state licensure requirements, please consult the website for the Georgia Secretary of State.
