Residents obtain a generalist orthopedic experience caring for veterans at the Atlanta VA while rotating there as upper-level residents. Residents gain confidence and graduated autonomy in orthopedic procedures including arthroplasty, fracture care, arthroscopy, and spine surgery throughout the course of the rotations. The faculty place a strong emphasis on teaching and one-on-one mentorship, as the environment facilitates education and learning. The Atlanta VA Medical Center is a 173-bed tertiary hospital located approximately 1.5 miles from the main Emory University Hospital.
