The primary goal of the Musculoskeletal Oncology rotation is to expose the resident to the broad scope of pathology related to musculoskeletal tumors. This includes outpatient work-up and diagnosis, as well as surgical management of primary and metastatic neoplasia to the bone and soft tissues of the extremities. The resident is exposed to a tremendous diversity in cases, including skeletal and soft tissue sarcomas, benign soft tissue and bone tumors, as well as metastatic disease. Wide array of surgical approaches to the upper and lower extremities is utilized. The majority of the operative and inpatient experience takes place at Emory Decatur Hospital, while patients are seen in clinic at the Emory Musculoskeletal Institute. Complex cases are presented at a weekly cross-disciplinary Tumor Conference.
