Emory orthopaedic residents participate in the evaluation and management of all pathologies affecting all parts of the upper extremity. The robust trainee experience involves several different clinical scenarios, patients from a variety of backgrounds, and a multitude of educational and research opportunities.
Residents rotate several times with the Emory upper extremity service in at least two clinical locations. Patients referred to the upper extremity service present the broadest-possible range of upper limb pathology. Residents become familiar with elective hand surgery, joint replacement, and a wide variety of traumatic conditions affecting all parts of the upper limb. Residents are exposed to microvascular reconstruction in addition to nerve transfers and surgery of the brachial plexus. Residents benefit from the upper extremity faculty’s commitment to teaching and research. Opportunities include research meetings, didactics, complex case conferences, journal clubs, and multidisciplinary meetings.
