The Emory University Musculoskeletal Oncology Fellowship offers specialized orthopaedic surgery experience. The educational goals of the Musculoskeletal Oncology Fellowship are to expose the fellow to a diverse experience of musculoskeletal neoplasia clinically and operatively and create an academic orthopaedic oncologist.
This fellowship experience promises surgical exposure to all aspects of musculoskeletal neoplasia and bone disorders including skeletal sarcomas, soft tissue sarcomas, benign soft tissue tumors, benign bone tumors, metastatic disease to the bone and soft tissues, and metabolic bone disease. Traditionally all sites of the body are operated upon. These include the sites of the axial skeleton and the appendicular skeleton. They also involve the retroperitoneum and extra compartmental areas of the axilla, groin and popliteal fossa. Surgeries also include the chest wall and abdominal wall. Additional responsibilities include seeing patients in the outpatient setting as well as rounding on inpatients and functioning as an educator in the department with the expectation of teaching residents in the clinic and operating room. The fellow will function as Senior Associate in the Department of Orthopaedics, thus having full clinical and operative privileges.
The fellow will also be expected to participate in research including clinical and pre-clinical studies as well as basic science research and produce a minimum of one research paper.
Applicants must have successfully completed a U.S. or Canadian Orthopaedic Residency training program and be Board eligible as well as have the ability to retrieve a full-unrestricted Georgia medical license and DEA.
