As one of the leading neurosurgery programs in the country, Emory University’s Department of Neurosurgery stands out through vast experience, a multi-disciplinary approach and innovative research.
Physician & Staff Expertise
While all members of our faculty are trained in multiple aspects of general neurosurgery, each neurosurgeon has a special area of interest, expertise and training. In other words, our physicians are able to subspecialize in a particular condition and/or procedure, giving them the ability to focus on a disorder (e.g., epilepsy or stroke) or surgical procedure (e.g., neuroendoscopy). This provides a remarkable amount of detailed knowledge and insight when providing unparalleled patient care and treatment.
Experience
The outstanding care our neurosurgery team provides stems from our exceptional experience. As a high-volume neurosciences center, Emory's neurosurgeons perform specialized procedures on a daily basis. Our specialties include:
- Brain Tumors
- Functional Neurosurgery
- Neuro-critical Care
- Pediatrics
- Pituitary
- Spine
- Stroke/Cerebrovascular
A Multidisciplinary Approach to Neurosurgery
Neurological conditions are often highly complex, so it takes a team of doctors trained in specific conditions to provide optimal treatment. We use a multidisciplinary approach to neurosurgical care, which means each neurosurgeon specializes in a particular condition and/or treatment, and collaborates with other physicians who specialize in different, complementary areas to provide effective patient treatment.
Our neurosurgeons work closely with neurointensivists, interventional radiologists, nurses and other staff members who are specially trained in individual areas of neurological care. Our physicians are able to focus on their practice areas, while developing an acute understanding of complexities involved. Thanks to a team of physicians with such extensive experience, our patients receive the best all-around care possible through each step of treatment.
Research & Technology
Our department offers extensive research, clinical trials and education programs that are among the best in the world. We are a national leader in neurosurgical research, generating new insight into brain-related diseases and disorders, while developing new procedures, trials and medications for treatment. Our physicians and scientists examine the causes and workings of specific neurological disorders as they aim to find more effective treatments for these conditions.
