Thank you for your interest in Emory Dermatology Residency Training Program! Our program seeks to recruit applicants with varied experiences, skills, and interests who will contribute actively to our department’s missions. We strive to review applications through a holistic lens. Our aim is to train future dermatologists who aspire to be leaders in the field and to provide a high level of care to ALL patients with dignity, respect, and professionalism.

• No specialty residency training tracks (e.g., research track) available this year.

• We encourage you to consider applying to Emory's Transitional Year Program. 
• We have 1 PGY-2 position available off cycle (i.e., starting 7/1/2025).  This position is available as physician-only (current PGY-1) and available for application via ERAS/NRMP with program code 1113080R0.

• ERAS application including your personal statement; 
  
• Minimum of three, and maximum of four, letters of recommendation:
  
  • Letters from academic dermatologists are encouraged.
  • Narrative letters and standardized letters (SLORs) are accepted. 
    
• Medical school transcript; 
  
• Medical School Performance Evaluation (MSPE), sometimes called the "Dean's Letter;" 
  
• USMLE Step I pass / fail score (or COMLEX); and
  
• Applicants must complete or have completed at least one year of ACGME-accredited postgraduate training clinical program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) in the United States or a similar program in Canada accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
• The clinical programs that are acceptable for the first postgraduate year are a transitional year or a first-year residency in internal medicine, general surgery, family practice, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, or emergency medicine.
• We perform a holistic review of applications; all components of an applicant's application are reviewed including applicant experiences, academic performance, publications, letters of recommendations, personal statement, etc.
• USMLE Step 2 score is not required but is encouraged. There is currently no cut-off for Step 2 score, however this is impacted by the total number of applications received.
• USMLE Step 2 CK and or CS scores are not required to interview. 
• There is no supplemental application or essay. 

• Interview invitations will be extended around the beginning of November in alignment with one of the coordinated interview release dates organized for dermatology residency training programs nationwide.
• Interviews are conducted on 1 full day, usually in mid-December.
• An optional (but encouraged), casual meet and greet session is held the night before the interviews.

• Gold and silver preference signals will be considered in selection of interview candidates but not be the full basis for interview selection.
• All applications will be reviewed, and no screening based on any criteria will be utilized (e.g., no Step 2 score cut off) unless otherwise stated in this section.
• All applicants interested in Emory Dermatology, including applicants completing an away rotation at Emory or home applicants, are also encouraged to submit preference signals in line with personal preferences and according to most current AAMC recommended guidelines for program signal program policies.

• Applicants are encouraged to attend program events (such as virtual open house session) to learn more about the program, but attendance is not considered in reviewing applications.
• Applicants may demonstrate interest in the program by submitting a program signals.
• Direct emails will not be considered.

• Applicants participating in couples match are encouraged to let the program leadership know via email (in addition to indicating this in ERAS).

• International applicants are considered.
• International Medical Graduates seeking appointment to a residency position must be certified by the ECFMG and enter the training program on a visa, unless a citizen of the United States or holding an Alien Registration Card.
• All such documentation must be verified by the Graduate Medical Education Office before the resident starts in the training program.
• The Emory University Office of Graduate Medical Education will sponsor a J-1 visa to any international medical school student that is offered a position in the department.
• H-1B1 visas may be sponsored on a case-by-case basis.

• Applicants from osteopathic and allopathic medical schools are ALL considered according to the criteria above.

• Applicants with prior residency training are considered with all other applicants according to the criteria above.
• Applicants are reviewed on a case-by-case basis and according to the funding landscape at the time.
• Significant changes to this policy will be posted here.

• Applicants to Emory Dermatology can also apply to the Emory Transitional Year Program.
• Applicants must apply separately to the Transitional Tear Program through ERAS.
• A separate interview is NOT required.
• Participation in any Emory Transitional Year information sessions is encouraged.
• If you are selected to interview with the Department of Dermatology, this will be considered your interview for the Transitional Year program.

• Dermatology applicants should NOT apply to the preliminary medicine program at Emory.
