Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology Fellowship

The Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology Fellowship at Emory University is a one-year training program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and the American College of Mohs Surgery (ACMS). 

Under the direction of Travis W. Blalock, MD Fellowship Program Director, the curriculum emphasizes comprehensive clinical training in cutaneous surgery and oncology.

The ACGME and ACMS currently recognize more than 70 training centers throughout the country where qualified applicants receive comprehensive training in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology, including Emory University. 

Fellowship training primarily takes place at Emory Clinic, the Atlanta VA Medical Center, and at the private offices of our faculty.

During training, there is an emphasis on Mohs Micrographic surgery and complex reconstruction with the opportunity to work with fellowship-trained Mohs surgeons in a diverse setting. During the training program, fellows complete a minimum of 600 cases on a multitude of different skin cancer cases. 

In addition, fellows have the opportunity to work with other oncologic and surgical specialties at Emory Healthcare including otolaryngology, facial plastics, radiation oncology, plastic surgery, and oculoplastics. 

Fellows participate in regular journal clubs, a weekly tumor board, and assist with teaching Emory Dermatology residents through didactic sessions and supervising procedure clinics at the Atlanta VA Medical Center.

The Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology Fellowship Training Program at Emory University participates in the San Francisco (SF) Matching Program. 

The match program is for US and Canadian residents only and takes place in December to process applicants who wish to begin their Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology Fellowship training in July of the following year.

Fellowship applicants must be board-eligible or board-certified by the American Board of Dermatology and must have a Georgia medical license by the time they are scheduled to begin the fellowship.
