Community Engagement

An organizational culture rich in diverse experiences helps us provide compassionate, cross-cultural care as we lead the effort to eliminate health inequities across the globe. Our faculty are at the forefront of excellence in diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts and the Office of Equity and Inclusion offers resources to support this important work.

The Graduate Medical Education (GME) leadership are committed to creating an inclusive and equitable learning and working environment for our 1,300+ trainees in over 25 core residency programs and 80+ fellowship programs.

The School of Medicine boasts an impressive 31% underrepresented in medicine (URiM) medical student population. The Office of Multicultural Affairs and Office of Equity and Inclusion offers resources and programs to support the mentorship, learning, and experience for all learners.

The Office of Multicultural Affairs provides programs to support the development and matriculation of diverse learners, which include medical students, health professions students, residents and fellows, and K-12 students interested in health professions.

Racial and Social Justice News

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death for women, particularly for pregnant women. However, adolescents are usually unaware of the risks. Heading into a pregnancy with cardiovascular risk factors increases the likelihood of adverse pregnancy outcomes

A recent major review of data published by the Lancet and led by Emory sports cardiologist Jonathan Kim, MD, shows that Black athletes are approximately five times more likely to experience sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) and sudden cardiac death (SCD) compared to White athletes.

A new study led by researchers at Emory University School of Medicine and Indiana University reveals that many older adults receiving primary care at federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) live with undiagnosed cognitive impairments, including mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia.
