Design, discovery and startup support for Emory students

Provided by: The Hatchery, Center for Innovation

Who’s eligible: Emory students interested in launching a company

The Hatchery supports student innovators and entrepreneurs of all schools at every stage of their process, from inspiration and learning to project and startup support.

At The Hatchery, entrepreneurial students learn about – then take the first steps toward – starting a company around an invention or idea.

The journey begins with building core skills through:

  • courses and training on innovation and entrepreneurship, from harnessing creativity to building diverse teams, interdisciplinary thinking, human-centered design, Lean Startup and more
  • insights and tips from industry and non-profit leaders with shows such as "Emory Innovators" and "Might Could: Stories of Innovation in the ATL"
  • curated materials for inspiration, learning and practicing — from strategy and team-building games, to ideation and planning aids and book and media collections
  • experiential learning opportunities to apply core innovation skills to create positive change in the world.
The Hatchery also coaches and helps students develop their ideas and connect them to:

  • material and financial support for projects and startups
  • personalized mentoring
  • methodologies for predictably and repeatably making effective decisions
  • programs and resources across Emory, and to companies, organizations and alumni outside of Emory.
Entrepreneurial students also prototype, build and launch products in The Hatchery by using:

  • a modern, Google X-styled facility that is highly-configurable and provides drop-in working space
  • a makerspace with materials for prototyping, including a 3D printer
  • collaboration and meeting rooms with whiteboards and AV equipment
  • an online resource library.
