The Division of Neonatology is a large and diverse group with more than 75 faculty, neonatal nurse practitioners, clinical fellows, and administrative staff. Clinical care is the cornerstone of our efforts and we are committed to providing exceptional oversight to our patients who often come from the Atlanta area and beyond. Each year our inpatient facilities provide the setting for more than 9,000 deliveries and more than 1,500 admissions to our intensive care units. Additionally, we see more than 1,200 patients each year in our high-risk follow-up clinics. The clinical care we provide is enhanced by our attention to two other important missions, education and research. Education is the impetus that drives successful academic goals, and to this end, we teach and mentor a variety of trainees, including medical students, housestaff, neonatal fellows, and students in our neonatal nurse practitioner program. The discovery of new knowledge through research is the means by which our care continually improves. Our efforts in this regard in the laboratory allow us to better understand the basic foundations of biological processes and translate these findings to improvement in patient care.
