Your Specialty:
Family Medicine
Where and for how many years did you train AFTER medical school:
Emory Family Medicine Residency Program for 3 years, chief residency during my third year
How did you choose your specialty?
I thought I wanted to go into a primary care specialty coming into medical school, and rotations confirmed that for me because of the rewarding patient relationships and opportunity to be a patient’s entry point into the medical system. However, I debated between Family Medicine and Internal Medicine for a while, even applying to both types of residency programs. I ultimately decided that I wanted to be able to see both kids and adults, to have my training be primarily outpatient-focused, and to get significant procedure, sports medicine, dermatology, and women's health training, so I decided Family Medicine was the place for me!
What do you like MOST, and like LEAST, about your specialty?
Most- The opportunity to build long-term relationships with patients and see patients of all ages.
Least- The volume of patient messages and lab results
In your opinion, what attributes are important in anyone choosing this specialty?
Curiosity and an interest in lifelong learning, empathy, interpersonal skills, humility

Playing and watching sports, reading fiction and nonfiction, gardening, cooking (but mainly eating), and hiking
