How did you choose your specialty?
I enjoyed surgery and knew I wanted to choose a field which allowed me to operate. I enjoy both abdominal and pelvic anatomy. I like a mix of complex surgeries and minor procedures. I also enjoy that Urology allows one to operate, but also maintain long term relationships with patients.
What do you like MOST, and like LEAST, about your specialty?
I like the variety of procedures involved in the field. I generally to not love managing female urinary incontinence, but as a female physician in the field of urology, I automatically see a large amount of these patients due to patient preference.
In your opinion, what attributes are important in anyone choosing this specialty?
- Technical skill surgically
- The ability to comfortably discuss personal issues with patients
- An interest in both medical and surgical management of a particular disease process
