How did you choose your specialty?
Pathology is a fundamental discipline of medicine. Patients and their physicians depend on laboratory and pathology results for diagnosis and management. During my internship year in Internal Medicine, I continuously went to the lab to find answers for my patients. The pursuit of establishing the diagnosis appealed to me and continues to be rewarding after 25 years of practice.
What do you like MOST, and like LEAST, about your specialty?
Most - Diagnostic challenges, working closely with my physician peers, serving a unique role in the multidisciplinary care team
Least - Working behind the scenes, lack of knowledge and understanding from clinical colleagues
In your opinion, what attributes are important in anyone choosing this specialty?
Excellent analytic and diagnostic skills, judgment, ability to work well with others, customer service and responsiveness
