Paulina was born in Munich, Germany and is a native German speaker. She obtained a BS in Psychobiology at the University of California, Los Angeles, and then went on to medical school at Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California. In medical school, she has been involved in a number of leadership activities. She was president of the Psychiatry Student Interest Group and advocated for more mental health services for students. In this role, she organized the first Mental Health Awareness month at Keck. She has also been involved in community service including teaching nutrition and parenting skills to young mothers in underserved communities. Paulina is an avid singer and lead vocalist of a rock band comprised of medical students called The Famous Squamous. She also served as co-president of Chorda Tympani, an a Capella group of Keck medical students, and organized performances for patients at USC hospitals and for other school events.
