Thota Ganesh, PhD

- Ganesh obtained B.Sc. (Chemistry, Physics and Biology) and M.Sc. (Organic Chemistry) degrees from Osmania University, Hyderabad, India.
- Ganesh obtained Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Osmania University, where he investigated synthetic methodologies and chemical investigation of indigenous plants.
- Ganesh received postdoctoral training at IIT-Bombay (INDIA), University of Durham (UK) and then at Virginia Tech (USA) on synthetic methodologies, semi-and total- synthesis of Taxol and Epothilone derivatives, before moving to Emory University.
- Ganesh Current Research interests are to Discover and Develop novel class of Anti-inflammatory drugs to treat a variety of diseases including but not limited to Epilepsy, Alzheimer’s Disease, TBI and Stroke.
- Ganesh received several awards including INNOVATOR of the year 2018 from Emory University’s Office of the Technology Transfer, and he is the recipient of 2023 Scientific Achievement Award from ASPET Division of Drug Discovery and Development.
Sukhleen Kaur, PhD

Kaur has completed her B.Sc. (Medical) and M.Sc. in Human Genetics from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, India and earned her Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from CSIR–Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM), India. Kaur’s doctoral research was focused on repurposing of existing drugs to target autophagy and NLRP3 inflammasome for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.

In her current role, she investigates the anti-inflammatory potential of EP2 receptor antagonists in Alzheimer’s disease models.

Outside the lab, she enjoys exploring nature and dancing.
Hao Xing, PhD

Xing completed his B.Sc. in Medicine from Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Jinan, China, M.Sc. in Medicine from Harbin Medical University, Harbin, China and Ph.D. Biological Science from Georgia State University, Georgia, USA.

During his Ph.D., he was utilizing electrophysiology approach, together with behavioral evaluation to investigate the neuronal circuit mechanism and pharmacological correction of respiratory depression of Rett Syndrome model mouse. Targeting on potassium channel located on Locus Coeruleus and Vagus Nucleus.

He worked as postdoctoral fellow Dr. Stephen F. Traynelis/Dr. Hongjie Yuan lab, investigating the beneficial effects of allosteric modulating NMDA receptor GluN-2B and GluN-2D subunit to counteract epilepsy and schizophrenia before moving to Dr. Ganesh’s laboratory.

Currently, in Dr. Ganesh’s Laboratory, Xing is investigating electrophysiology, in-house customized non-invasive electroencephalogram recording, together with proteomic analysis to validate the neuronal protection effect and pathological correction of pilocarpine-induced status epilepticus mouse model, early-onset and late-onset Alzheimer's disease mouse model using small molecule EP2 antagonists.

Soheila completed B.Sc. in biology at Lorestan University , Iran,Sc. in animal physiology, Shahed University, Tehran, Iran and PhD in animal physiology, Kharazmi University, Tehran, Iran. Soheila’s PhD work is to investigate Neuroprotective effect of minocycline and olfactory ensheathing cell on the spinal cord injury in rats.

Currently in Ganesh’s Laboratory investigate neuroinflammation and behavioral deficits in mouse models of neurodegenerative diseases including TBI, epilepsy and Alzheimer's disease.

Ms. Wenyi Wang

Wang obtained medical degree from Fudan University, China.

Wang is a Research Technical Specialist since Nov 2025 in Ganesh’s laboratory. Ms. Wang's has immunology, cell biology and molecular biology experience. Currently here research focuses on creating and optimization of status epilepticus in mice to investigate ensuing pathologies. She performs all laboratory surgeries related to the Epilepsy model and Long-term EEG Monitoring in mice.

Wang also manages the lab, trains students, takes care of protocols, and performs EP2 antagonists screening in vitro cellular assays.
Januario Thomas Ernesto, PhD

Januario is lecturer and researcher at the Faculty of Science -Rovuma University (UniRovuma). Obtained Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences (Medicinal Chemistry) from the Federal University of Alfenas (UNIFAL), Minas Gerais, Brazil. Master in Natural Products Chemistry from the Pedagogical University in Maputo, Mozambique and with a Degree in Biology Teaching from the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at the Pedagogical University- Beira Branch, Mozambique. Januario gained experience in design, synthesis, characterization and biological evaluation and Isolation and identification of natural bioactive compounds, structural determination and biological evaluation of bioactive compounds.

In Ganesh laboratory Januario is conducting synthesis and biological evaluation of quinolin-6-yl- benzene-sulfonamide derivatives as multitargeted ligands (MTDLs) for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease.
