A'Kristionna King, MPH, CDFT
Program Coordinator - Community and Engagement/HR Initiatives
Tell us about yourself. Where are you from?
I was born in Panama City, FL, but relocated right outside of Baltimore, MD, when I was just about two years old. Both of my parents were in the military, but retired after we moved to Maryland, so that’s where we ended up settling down.
What is your professional background?
Before coming to Emory, I coordinated the DEI programs of the University of Missouri Athletics Department and served as a consultant for the K-12 public school district’s diversity programs.
What is your role at Emory?
I am the Program Coordinator for the DOM’s Community and Engagement Team. Our team works to support department members to allow them to thrive through community-building activities, create a culture of inclusive excellence in which department members feel empowered and engaged to excel at work, and foster a sense of belonging in the department and throughout the School of Medicine and the broader Emory community. We support a number of programs and initiatives that provide meaningful engagement and opportunities for community members to thrive, and my job is to coordinate each of these programs.
How long have you worked in the Department of Medicine?
I have worked in the DOM for a little over two years now, and I truly enjoy the community and culture here.
What are you currently working on? Any upcoming projects?
Our biggest event of the year, Health Equity Day, is rapidly approaching! This will be our sixth annual Health Equity Day, and our second-ever hybrid event. We are so excited to host at Grady’s Trauma Auditorium once again for our in-person segments. One of my favorite things about Health Equity Day is that participants have the option of joining either virtually or in person, so they can participate in a way that works best for their schedule.
We are really looking forward to hosting our incredible keynote speaker, Nadia Hansel, MD, MPH, William Osler Professor of Medicine and Chair of the Department of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Each year, we are so fortunate to have amazing poster presentations by such talented scholars. Submissions are still open for abstracts, award nominations, and volunteers, so make sure to check out the Health Equity Day website and submit today!
What do you like to do for fun outside of work?
I love to try new restaurants and farmer’s markets, travel, cook, and do yoga.
