Discuss your path to the Emory PA Program
It wasn’t until my third year of college when I learned about the PA profession. I shadowed a few local PA’s of various specialties and fell in love with how versatile the career was! During my “gap” years after college, I worked as an Emergency Department scribe, medical assistant, medical interpreter, and care coordinator. I also volunteered in low-cost nonprofit clinics in my community and abroad in Peru with my church.
One of my volunteer experiences was actually with the Emory PA program during the South Georgia Farmworker Health Project, where I provided Spanish/English interpretation. By doing so, I had a unique opportunity to really see how Emory PA students are trained and how supportive the faculty and staff were. It was such a great experience seeing the Emory students immerse themselves in this rural and underserved area and fulfill Emory’s mission. During that volunteer experience, I learned that I wanted more than anything to be an Emory PA!
What field do you plan to pursue post-graduation?
I have a few interests, which include Emergency medicine, Surgery, and Critical Care Medicine. I plan to pursue a career in one of those fields.
What would you want others to know about your years at the Emory PA Program?
I really enjoy drawing, and that’s what helped me get through school! I drew a lot of disease processes/pathophys and shared some of them with classmates. My lasting memory will always be the friends that I made while in PA school. It’s amazing to see how much we have learned as a class and looking at how far we’ve all come!
Why did you decide to pursue a career as a PA and come to Emory?
As a lifetime learner, I loved that PAs can work in essentially any specialty. I wanted to come to Emory because of its mission and values, which align so well with my own.
